Welcome Message

Hello, and welcome to the Village of Alanson. Our quaint village is located along the banks of the Crooked River and the bluffs of the Hillside Gardens at the intersection of M-68 and US-31.

Our Village, like so many of our neighbors in northern Michigan, got its start during the lumbering days in the latter part of the 1800’s. There were saw mills and specialty mills that made products from the abundant wood and kept Alanson’s economy humming. The location on the Crooked River played a vital part in moving the logs to the mills for processing. As the lumbering industry waned, a new one was born, tourism, which remains a vital part of today’s economy.

Whatever season you choose to visit, Alanson has something for you. If in the summer months, you can enjoy a relaxing boat ride down the famed Inland Waterway or a scenic bike ride on the Nothwestern State Trail. If it is the winter you prefer, we have some of the best groomed snowmobile trails in the state, oh and lets not forget, some of the top ski slopes in the country just down the road. If you are looking for a unique place to eat, sleep and shop, we have you covered.

If you are just planning a getaway or a new place to call home, you are always welcome in Alanson.
